Art Accesses: Passages into Actual Art

Passages into Actual Art reveal processes of mediation between different segments of the art system, of constant negotiation upon the role of art within different institutional frameworks, and makes visible the inherent antagonisms between the critical potential of artistic practices and their inevitable institutionalization. The main focus is on the function of the curator as the mediator processing the permeability of the art system for innovative art practices, while at the same time providing them with appropriate contextual settings, cultural and theoretical readings. The curator is, therefore, creating contexts for critical questions on social issues, or societal processes, as articulated through contemporary art practices. Passages into Actual Art are, at the same time, to provide with a close professional reading of creative potentials of those artistic practices which reflect their own contextual settings and a wider public insight into them. They are to facilitate further articulation of critical standpoints profiled by works of contemporary art and enable their stronger influence in the general field of cultural and social representations.
