DYSFUNCTIONAL PLACES / DISPLACED FUNCTIONALITIES

As a topic for the exhibition we chose to reflect upon the sites in Belgrade that do not serve their primary purpose, so one mostly perceives them as “dead points” in the functional dynamics of the city. The aim of the project was to demonstrate other potentials or construct new types of functionality, taking into consideration multitude of contextual limitations imposed upon these sites. In the light of the analysis done on urban, architectural, topographic, cultural, historic, geo-strategic aspects of these city locations, six artists or art groups were invited to intervene into a certain site in one of the central areas of the city of Belgrade, considered to be disfunctional, as if being of no use, by:
- facing and defacing different contextual strata or cultural flows inscribed in its marks;
- emphasizing and recontextualizing its given architectural, urbanistic, topographical elements;
- exposing and critically reflecting its actual or proposing potential alternative uses
